It has been a long time since I last mentioned about my housemate in my blogs(the other blog of mine). Now I would like to share it with my fellow friends and lecturer again.
He is a China Chinese, aged around 22, thin and had a fair skin. He did not gave me a good impression when we first met. It was an ordinary Saturday afternoon. As usual, I was washing my clothes(before I bought a washing machine). He came in into our room accompanied by Mr. Bukhori, our warden. At first I thought that he was my roomate, so I did not bothered about him and continue with my laudry. While I was rubbing my jeans, I heard a heavy Bei Jing accent Mandarin which required myriad tounge rolling techniques combined with some kind of China dialect which I do not understand. The sound got closer and closer......
Suddenly, a head appeared from behind the door, with a lighted cigarete on it. It was him-Jun Yee. The first time our eyes met, I straight knew that he was a typical China Chinese, the one with slit eyes. In Beijing-accent Mandarin, he said:
"Hi!!Would you like to smoke?"
"No, thanks. I don't smoke."
"Are you sure? Why? Come on, have one...(he pulled out one from the cigarette box)"
Deep in my heart, I heard myself coming out with all kinds of harsh words in all languages I know - Chinese, Malay, English, Hokkien, Hakka, Cantonese, Tamil......But, of course I was still able to hold my head. I answered him decently. "Sorry, I really don't smoke"
"Oh.....I see. But can you let me use the toilet for a while?I've been holding it for hours on the plane."
This is how we met.
Later, my impression on him became worse. He brought girls back to his room and they stayed in his room until the next morning. My roomate and I slept earlier since that China guy appeared in our daily life, afraid of hearing something that we are not supposed to hear because of the poor sound absorbance of the wall in hostel.(We are innocent!!) But, we did'nt hear anything.
Besides his lustful lifestyle, my roomate and I were also irritated by his habit of smoking. When he first came, I helped him to find money changer and bought him a handphone number. While we went to 7-eleven to get him some groceries, we had a small chat. He told me that he is very generous which indirectly means that he likes to show off his wealth. I knew that it would be a hard time for us to stay together under the same roof for a long period because he SMOKES! Days living together with him was like hell. We tried to negotiate with him so that he would smoke outside the room but it was like asking an ox to play a piano.
Actually being lustful and smoking were not as shocking as another habit of his - flaunting. He was sure a generous China man and even flaunted his body proudly every time he takes his bath. Can you imagine this? Three innocent under-aged teenages sitting together in a room, chatting about things heppened in college with the room door opened widely. Can you? How about this : Later, a naked China Chinese man appeared at the room door and starred blankly at them for a few seconds? This is the first night the Chinese guy stepped his feet on the land of Malaysia. Sadly, it was also the first time the three innocent teenages' eyes being polluted by pornographic scene. It was shocking, wasn't it? But God created Man with an ability to adapt to his environment no matter how harsh it is or should I say 'How dirty it is'. After a week, that scene had became part of their daily routine. It's already an attraction to that room which was later called - Heaven for Ornithologists. End of the story. Let's go back to my story.
Fortunately, that Chinese guy who was my housemate didn't stay long in Malaysia. A few things happened during his time in Malaysia. His girlfriend went mad and he knew that he can no longer stay in Malaysia. In the end, he made a decision that relieved me and my roomate. He went back to China. This is the wisest decision he had made since he came to Malaysia, I think. Now, a foreign guy moved into his room, either an Iranian or Suddanese. So far everything is still fine and I hope that the current situation will not change.
